Darwin - The world of 'Crocodile Dundee'
If you are looking for pure beauty in a natural setting - The Northern Territory will deliver that for you.
Explore and admire amazing rock formations, grasslands, deserts, waterfalls and wetlands, deep gorges and canyons. Aboriginal culture and rock art galleries dating more then 60000 years - are an all essential part of a visit to this fascinating land.
The Northern Territory is indeed a very special place. Shaped like a large rectangle this state is about 20 percent of the surface of Australia, and equal to the areas of France, Spain and Italy combined together. To cover such a vast area is not easy, and the best approach is to fly into either Darwin or Alice Springs or Ayers Rock, explore the local area and then fly on to the next destination.
Due to its tropical position NT has only two seasons - a wet (from October to April) and dry season (from May to September) and has two distinctive faces - the green and tropical Top End and the red-brown deserts of the Centre.
Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory, has a population of 124,000 and sits on a cliff-sided peninsula overlooking a vast harbour and the Timor Sea.
The city's present location was discovered in 1839 and named after the famous naturalist Charles Darwin. Located in the heart of Australia's tropics, averaging + 32 degree temperatures throughout the year, this city of broad streets and shady parks has one of the most brilliant sunsets in Australia.
Unlike any other Australian city, Darwin has a close affinity with Asia and even has a touch in its atmosphere.
