Stradbroke Island
Straddie is a sub-tropical island located 30 km south-east of Brisbane, Queensland, and it is the world's second-largest sand island: about 38 km long and 11 km wide!
From endless summer adventures to awesome 'whale-watching' winters, Straddie is the perfect spot for a holiday, short break or day trip.
From cultural and historical experiences to bayside dreaming in Dunwich (Goompi); from great fishing and dolphin encounters to sensational Straddie sunsets at Amity Point (Pulan); from amazing bush walks to visiting stunning freshwater lakes in our National Parks, and from beautiful gorges, beaches and up-close wildlife experiences to uncrowded surf at Point Lookout (Mooloomba); Straddie offers a diversity to satisfy a variety of tastes. Your only problem will be choosing where to go and what to do... and wishing you never had to leave!
Straddie is 30 km from Brisbane and 50 km from the Gold Coast, reached by a comfortable 40-minute ferry across Moreton Bay from Cleveland. A barrier island, it is 38 km long and 11 km wide, with a total area of 27,530 hectares. It is known for its magnificent sandy beaches (the main beach is 32 km long), huge dunes up to 100 metres high, ancient vegetation, and lookouts for seasonal sightings of dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, dugongs and humpback whales. Many freshwater lakes include Ibis Lagoon, Black Snake Lagoon and Blue Lake. Eighteen unique animal species live on the island, among them koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, echidnas and possums, along with many rare and exotic birds.
