Tour in Cairns: Kuranda and Rainforestation Nature Park

Join the famous Scenic Railway to Kuranda Village.

This historic railway will wind its way through the spectacular World Heritage-listed tropical rainforest, climbing more than 300 metres into the forest.

The exciting train journey will pass through 15 tunnels and over 40 bridges, and wind around 98 curves before arriving at its final destination.

The picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda is famous for its heritage-listed buildings and award-winning hanging fern gardens at the train station.

Visit the Butterfly Sanctuary or the Bird Park, or just walk through the village streets and on Market Day browse the arts and crafts at the village stores.

Take the Skyrail to return to the bottom of the mountain and enjoy the bird's-eye views as your gondola glides above the treetops.

Visit Rainforestation Nature Park and learn about the culture of the Indigenous people of Australia.

The historic railway, with its vintage carriages from the 19th century, takes you up to the charming mountain village of Kuranda, 300 metres above sea level. The village is famous for its galleries, souvenir shops, one of the largest butterfly collections in the world, and its bird and animal parks.

The return trip to the coast on the 7 km Skyrail cableway takes you in gondolas above the canopy of giant ancient trees, with stops for walks through the tropical rainforest.

At the Rainforestation park you can meet Aboriginal people, hear their legends and the music of the didgeridoo, watch their dances and try your hand at throwing a spear and a boomerang. You can also ride through the rainforest in an amphibious Army Duck and visit the wildlife park.

Entrance fees are not included; they are extra for the scenic train (a Gold Class carriage is also available), the Skyrail (Diamond View gondolas are also available), the Rainforestation park (Aboriginal experience, wildlife park and Army Duck ride) and lunch.
