The city leg takes in the Rocks, the Opera House, Hyde Park Barracks, the Royal Botanic Garden, Parliament House, St Mary's and St Andrew's cathedrals, the Town Hall, the Queen Victoria Building, the General Post Office, the nightlife centre of Kings Cross, Darling Harbour and Mrs Macquarie's Chair, one of the most beautiful spots in the city.

On the way to the north you drive over the Harbour Bridge with panoramic views of the business district, the harbour and the white sails of the Opera House, stop at the Milsons Point lookout and cross the bascule bridge to the northern beaches. Manly, lined with giant Norfolk Island pines, is popular for summer holidays, surfing and whale watching, and North Head National Park has walking tracks and lookouts about 90 metres above the sea. You will also see a magnificent Gothic Revival castle on the hill (1885), a film location for The Great Gatsby, which was formerly St Patrick's Seminary and is now an international management college.
