Wave Rock, near the town of Hyden, 350 km from Perth in the salt lake region, is one of the wonders of the world. Tens of thousands of visitors come each year to see this ancient granite rock, which wind and rain have shaped into a giant surfing wave frozen in its fall. The massive wave stands among flat, dry country far from the ocean and rises 15 metres above the ground over a length of 110 metres. The colour of the rock changes dramatically through the day with the light and the dampness of the stone, so every photo is different. The Aboriginal people still regard Wave Rock as a holy place where the spirits of water and earth meet.
